Upcycling is a term used when taking something and making into something bigger and better.  This used to be an old black rusty aquarium stand.  Now, it is a glossy yellow console table or bookshelf, or even a TV console.  The metal was sanded down and covered in a high gloss yellow lacquer.  I wanted to find a piece of wood that really had character so that I didn't have to stain or paint it.  After a few visits to nearby lumber yards, I found this beautiful piece of poplar that I cut to fit the top and bottom.  The wood is raw with no treatments, showing amazing grain!

I am so in love with the way this piece turned out!  The casing has been completely sanded down and re-stained to bring out the original wood grain.  The diamond inlay detail of the top row of drawers adds such a nice touch.  The middle row of drawers have been painted a light grey, and the bottom row a medium grey.  Notice the wood block drawer pulls in the center of each drawer... LOVE IT!  Solid wood, heavy and sturdy, a piece that will last another generation!

This green is definitely a signature District color, and what a better piece to use it on than this beautiful Mid Century credenza!  It is all solid wood and in great condition.  3 drawers and 2 cabinet doors that open up to adjustable shelving.  Perfect for storing dishes, books or even components if you wanted to use it as a TV console.

Yesterday I went on a buying trip through Indiana and Michigan and boy was it fun!  By the end of the trip I literally had about 2 inches around me in the van to drive home.  It wasn't the most comfortable ride, but I sure was smiling the whole ride home because of all my great finds!  Here are most of them.  I still have an extendable dining table and an industrial steel desk in my car that I am waiting for help to take it out.  
Please notice these standout pieces from an artist I found in Indiana.  He took vintage, steel air return vents and soldered legs onto them to make end tables!  I have 3 of them.  Also he took a vintage tool chest and cut wood in a diagonal pattern to fit the top.  Such amazing pieces!!

I'm getting kinda hooked on geometrics!  The dove grey door adds a nice balance to the turquoise don't you think?!  All solid wood.  There are 3 drawers on the right with refinished gold hardware, and behind the door hides another drawer with a turquoise pop.  This is a great size as well, not as large as most of the other credenza type pieces I normally do. Entry table, TV console or dining room buffet.... so many options!

I know, I do a lot of white pieces, but I really love the way the wood accents the white paint.  Especially when it frames out drawers or cabinet doors just like this piece.  The drawers and doors are also raised which adds a very vice accent.  Great storage for components if you would like to use it as a TV Stand, but also works great as a credenza or entry console! Solid wood, tapered legs and very cool original hardware!

The multi tiers and hardware leaped off this piece when I saw it!  I was extremely excited to get started on this once I brought it to the shop.  I also wanted to introduce a new color to the District color palette and what a better piece to do so than this one.  All solid wood and VERY heavy!  The new color is a beautiful vintage moss green, which accents the charcoal grey boxed cabinets so nicely.  The raised top center is a nice added touch, and offered an opportunity to do a dual colored top.  The chunky square hardware is so fun and unique and matches this piece perfectly.  3 drawers down the center offer tons of storage, as well as the 2 cabinet doors.

I have been waiting for a piece like this so that I could do the multi color thing to it.  I really love the drawer layout.  Great for storage options, plus the cabinet doors open to offer multiple component storage.  This piece would work great for a TV Console, or even a bench!  The entire piece has been refinished and the drawer fronts have been sanded and then painted 4 different shades ranging from white to charcoal gray.
